Mt. Blue Area Garden Club Minutes

July 19, 2022

The meeting was called to order by Libby and introductions were made. The collect and conservation pledge were recited.

Treasurer’s Report: Marion presented the Treasurer’s Report. A motion was made to accept it, seconded and approved.

Business:

We need a volunteer to weed and deadhead at the Courthouse for the week of August 11-18. If you can help with this, please let Beth know.

Technology: Rachel will walk people through accessing the website.

The Amazon Smile connection is now set up. Amazon Smile helps non-profits raise money. To use this feature, you can shop on the Amazon site, but when you check out, go to the Amazon smile site (your shopping cart will automatically be forwarded) and identify Garden Club Federation of Maine, Wilton, as your chosen charity. A small percentage of your purchase will be forwarded to our club.

The Scholarship Committee will meet directly after tonight’s garden tour.

For now, we are tabling the plan to work with Mt Blue high school students.

The membership committee needs a chair. Mary may be interested. We will discuss this at our next meeting.

Farmington Fair is the third week in September. We discussed manning the booth and using “Support the Ukraine” as a theme, but no final decisions were made. Libby wants a poster encouraging involvement, touching on our website, and our scholarship availability to high school and home school students. Annette volunteered to make the poster.

The Stakeholders group wants to plan a celebration of the WWI monument on 5/30/2024, one hundred years from its initial placement.

The meeting was adjourned, and Becky Grant Widen led a tour of her extensive gardens. Thank-you Becky!

Respectfully submitted,

Annette Tripp

Secretary
