Collaboration with American Legion on WWI Memorial Restoration

FARMINGTON — Members Libby Kaut, Marion Hutchinson, and Beth Myers, were invited to speak before the American Legion Post 28 to acquaint the veterans of the Mt. Blue Area Garden Club (MBAGC) project to restore the site of the Teague Memorial WWI Arch.

Discussion of the new tree hedge was met with positive input.  This new hedge will serve as a backdrop to the stone arch, and will replace the old Norway maples, which are an invasive species in Maine. The addition of a dedicated parking lot was of particular interest to accommodate disabled veterans.

The American Legion members are the most frequent users of the site, which is why MBAGC is actively collaborating with them on this improvement project.  Handouts were distributed that outlined the project and were received with genuine interest. Questions were addressed by the MBAGC panel with active participation.

MBAGC expressed appreciation for the opportunity to come before the Legion today and were invited to return with future updates.
